my dad was captured at st valerie un somme on the 8thjune 1940 he was a corporal in the 8th bat argyll and sutherland highlanders, maybe they knew each other. there is a small cemetery in st valerie un somme where some members of the 8th battelion who were killed in early june are buried. i hope to visit again someday to pay my respects they are worthy of rememberence, i am always deeply moved when i stand in amongst them they were so young, scotlands bravest. it was nice to read the story

  my dad was captured on the 8th june 1940, cpl mathew connelly argyll and sutherland c coy, he escaped from the march but was eventually captured in 1942 and spent rest of war in loos-lille prison for one year and then to lansdorf 344 camp until early 1945 when he survived the death march and was released by the russians on 1st april 1945. he died in 1964, i regret i did not find more about his escapades during the war, i have visited his friends who lie in st vallery un somme cemetery, brave men every one of them john connelly son
