I regretted the original poster withdrawing his article …

Comment posted Is For Argyll for Argyll? by Simon.

I regretted the original poster withdrawing his article as he made some very telling points in a few sentences and in particlaur he wondered why there was no coverage in FA of the Sunday Herald article on Cambeltown and Dunoon being the two most at risk rural town in Scotland.

Perhaps as evidence of this decline only this week and for the second year running one man has been murdered and another stabbed in a related incident.

No mention of this FA either.

The SNP are incompetent and impotent.

For all their promises and posturing their nasty little civil war, whilst it might be over, is far from forgotten. Who could forget that the SNP ‘record’ to date has been w-e-l-l inglorious at best.

    In less than a year they’ve :-
    ‘Lost’ two Leaders,
    ‘Lost’ two Councillors,
Local branches attacked their Leader and his policies,
The SNP Constituency Chairman tried to persuade SNP Cllrs to vote against their own SNP budget proposals
SNP supporters have attacked other SNP Cllrs calling them “Traitors” and “duplicitous”
    Lost the Administration
Behaved like a slut jumping in and out of bed with a variety of partners in a vain attempt to cling to power
Finally, and despite having the largest number of Cllrs – Dick Walsh looks likely to be back in charge – with the SNP reduced to a supporting role.

    SNP: incompetent and impotent.

  • James Robb, as the cordite clears
Gobbells knew if you repeat a lie often enough people will believe it.

That’s why it’s important to stop Fletcher of Buffoon when he lies. For example “Anyone suggesting that Dick Walsh should be brought back in or that the Con-Dems are given a whiff or power again… They almost caused the bankruptcy of the Council”.

Lie. Untrue. Lie. Fabrication. Lie. Never happened. Lie. Economical with the truth. Lie. SNP. Lie.

Dick Walsh’s budgets were all passed with no dissenting voice and there was never any question of the Council almost being made bankrupt under the previous administration.

Fletcher’s claim is a complete and utter SNP lie.

The Buffoon might have wished that was the case – but it never was. Given the on-going omnishambles of a pantomime that the SNP have visited on Argyll – you would’ve thought the SNP would’ve learned that humility and honesty can go along way – but they haven’t they still lie.

  • Withdrawals move numbers against proposed new coalition
Dave, we all know that individual SNP members are being contacted and informed ‘that if you support this coalition you will be expelled from the party’.

So Trail, Lousie Glen (“the most duplicitous person I’ve ever met”: Breslin) Sandy Taylor and the other “traitors” have “also refused to follow Robb” not from principle or conviction but from coercion.

Doesn’t really bode well for the future now does it…. :)

  • Proposed posts for proposed new council coalition administration
Newsie, “Councillor Kinniburgh sees what we believe is his first ever sniff of power – as Depute Lead Councillor for Planning and Regulatory Services – the traditional honeypot brief.~”

What you mean by “the traditional honeypot brief” ??

  • Proposed posts for proposed new council coalition administration
As I’ve said already this is a shambles.

The behaviour of the SNP (including the ex-SNP, the resigned SNP, the suspended SNP and the still-as-yet-in-the-SNP) has been a complete disgrace. Their language about each other has been intemperate, their actions reprehensible and it does seem that they are only concerned about their puffed-up-egos and positions and continuing to stab their ex-colleagues in the chest.

Civil wars normally follow independence – but not in the case of the Argyll and Bute SNP.

The tragedy of course is that this is not over by a long shot. Civil wars leave festering memories and revenge is in the air as these internal conflicts shows no sign of receding.

The losers in all of this? Those deluded fools who voted SNP believing in a bright new dawn certainly, but actually all of us who live and work in in Argyll and Bute as the SNP Cllrs and erstwhile SNP Cllrs continue with their bloody civil war rather than getting on getting on with the job they were elected to do.

But perversely this might yet turn out to be of long-term benefit as quite frankly the antics of these amateurs in the Argyll and Bute SNP is the best advert EVER for a resounding NO vote!

  1. how about putting it at the top of the left hand side bar with a For Argyll logo on it that way when a link to one of your articles is put up on the likes of Facebook your logo is one of the options in the thumbnail.. at the moment there is all the campaign logos but no choice to use your own !

  2. The whole navigation could do with some rejigging. A lot of it seems too spread out and the forargyll banner doesnt stand out very well among the various multicoloured campaigns/sections.

    • Simon, I do believe that since there is a small staff at FA, perhaps covering all stories might sometimes be awkward.

However, there is also the facility for you to write up the Dunoon issues yourself and see if they will publish them ;)

  4. It would have been nice to have read that post, shame i missed it before the selective censorship of FA imposed itself (though had it been abusive then i would support the actions of FA). Perhaps you would like to summarise the main points. Personally i find FA a bit of a curates egg, excellent coverage in some areas, other areas not so good.

    • ‘Selective censorship’ is a quite dishonest ‘spin’.
May I remind you that we had willingly published the message – and later removed it out of courtesy to the reader who had not intended the message to be published. We obviously had no problems with publishing it, although we would have done so anyway, as we always do.

  5. Personally, I find it terribly difficult to reply to the article in general rather than to any specific comment. (I think other commentors have remarked on the same problem in the past.) The heading “Leave a Reply” and the button “Post Comment” don’t work intuitively for me (perhaps because I can’t see them both in one vertical screen, but in any case “Leave a Reply” isn’t an action-area at all, so far as I can discern, and “Post Comment” seems to invite me to post a blank comment. FA — plz work on this).

Also, would it be possible to have “Like/Dislike” boxes on the article itself, not just on comments? I would quite like sometimes to “Like” an article, in itself.

  6. I was one of those who commented on the original article and was hilarious, charming whilst still cool, calm and collected – unfortunately that post has been deleted and none of you will ever realise how delightful I can be. However do note that you have it on good authority that all that I have said above is true.

I can’t understand why people get frustrated about whether or not a story has a tangible connection to Argyll. ‘For Argyll’ is just a name and can be interpreted in many ways. I don’t recall a collection of malcontent New Yorkers desperately scrabbling for tales of Bugles in the Daily Bugle.

The headline of a story, the vast majority of the time, provides enough information to allow a person to decide whether or not they want to read an article. If that doesn’t then the opening paragraph will do so (in conjunction with the headline).

If you don’t like a story or are not interested in the topic then don’t read it. If you find that the overall collection of stories within the site are no longer addressing what you want them to then move on to a different site that does. Dictating what should and shouldn’t be covered to a website run by people who are unpaid and don’t charge for reading the site seems a little like ‘it’s your ball and you’re not playing with it’

If there is an issue in A&B that you don’t feel has been covered by Newsroom then by all means flag it – it could be they have missed it and may welcome the heads up. However do it with a bit of common decency by the contact us link or e-mail – using it as a reason to criticise them is a bit childish. It could be that they have good reason for not running a story on it and they will probably be prepared to back that up. It could also be because they are a bit bloody busy and they haven’t had a chance to get round to it yet. It could also be because they are still looking into it to get more info.

Of course there is always the option of writing your own article and submitting it.

Personally I welcome For Argyll paying cognisance to stories from within and outwith Argyll – doesn’t mean I read all of them, just means I am selective. I certainly wouldn’t criticise them, or any of their writers for their choice of topic or content of their articles. I also recognise the good it has done in terms of bringing together like minded people, or people with a common cause, from different corners of Scotland, down South and also in far away sunnier places. There is nothing to be gained from being too provincial in our consideration about issues that affect Argyll.

  7. Thanks to Simon i read the article that he referred to, i found it quite interesting. I also accept the point from She Bat that not all things can be covered in FA all of the time due to limited resources and if it is covered elsewhere why repeat it. As for reply 6, a little verbose, but it makes a point, what happens in AB is discussed way beyond the region, you may be surprised how many people care about what happens here.
