- Have you considered that he may have left the Labour Party because of the values which he supported? A common complaint among many of those who moved from Labour to the SNP is that it was the Labour Party whose values changed as they became almost indistinguishable from the Tories. That trend continues and unholy alliances between them in Councils all over Scotland only proves the point.

- Scotland and the banks – the real issue
The usual reason given for the high bonuses paid to bankers etc is that they have to be highly paid to be keep them from moving to other EU countries. Utter rubbish, its greed.
75% of EU banking millionaires are in the UK.
The money that goes into their pockets is coming out of ours and the Westminster government is making sure it stays that way. The bankers know this of course, so they will issue threats about leaving Scotland if we vote for Indy to scare us into propping up their lifestyle for a few more years.
How many jobs could be created for one bankers bonus?
- A83 9th March: slope stabilisation work underway at Rest and Be Thankful
I suppose you would be complaining if nobody from the Scottish Government had paid any attention to this, the latest in a long line of landslides. At least he took the time to come and see for himself what the problems are. But if you think he is wasting taxpayers money then drop him a line telling him not to bother coming next time and that you can manage just fine in Argyll without politicians sticking their nose in where it’s not wanted, and you don’t need any money from Holyrood to solve the problem.
In the real world, perhaps he will now have a better understanding of the situation at the Rest and will try a bit harder to find a solution.
- BBC ALBA to rebroadcast Nationwide stories – and from Argyll
Eric was not the only one to watch it, Lowry.
The item on the smell in Drummore Harbour was interesting. 40 years later and the smell is just as bad, if not worse. We are out of range but occasionally I have to go there and the car windows are kept firmly shut and the heater fan turned off. It even clings to your clothes when you get back in the car.
The one story I would hope to see on the programme is the one about Calum’s Road. This was in the original Nationwide and they can’t really leave it out. A fascinating story of one man’s determination, which was also the title of a pipe tune.
BBC Alba is one of the most interesting channels on television, certainly on the BBC. It approaches a wide variety of subjects, not just in Scotland, from a different angle and can be highly informative. Subtitles are provided for us non-speakers of God’s language.
- Salmond snubbed oil and gas industry in Aberdeen – but John Reid wowed the room
Funny Robert, that’s the impression I was getting too. My party heavyweight is better than yours.
John Reid, as a politician, was certainly competent, I would agree with that. But blind party allegiance on the part of Gus elevates him to a Godlike status despite being one of those responsible for the Iraq debacle. He got his reward for that though as he is now a lord. Iraq, meanwhile, is in a worse state than before the invasion. I wonder if Gus would be so full of praise if a Tory minister had achieved exactly the same results. All those who used lies to justify that illegal invasion should be held to account as criminals.
Edit-to answer JB’s question after this post. The answer to your question is No, but many Iraqis do wish he was still in power. It was a much safer place to live for them then, free from bombs etc every day.
- Best Indy political cartoon
I would agree, Jnr. Neither side came out of that with any credit. It was more like a stairheid rammy between two drunk fishwives than a debate. It needed to be controlled much more than it was. I watched it on Border TV so it would also have been seen in the North of England. God knows what they made of it.
