Comment posted Tonight: meeting in Oban on forming West of Scotland Watersports Hub by Mike Story.
I cannot speak directly for the organisers of this great meeting, but as far as Argyll and The Isles Tourism are concerned and from the general feeling at the meeting, a hub and spoke approach where all Argyll and The Isles based watersports and Marine tourism providers would be interlinked and would work togther.
Done well, this could provide the largest and most varied range of aqua based products in Scotland, if not Europe.

- A great turn out despite the thunderstorm. The fact that most people were dripping wet did’nt dampen the enthusiasm in the room.
I was glad I could lend support and signpost the way to become part of the Argyll and The Isles Tourism network.
A great cross section of businesses with the potential to combine and offer a wold class range of outdoor and marine activities.
Looking forwards to the next meeting

Congratulations to all the Argyll businesses who have been shortlisted. Given that we compete in an a regional group which includes Glasgow, the number shortlisted is exceptional. The geographic spread of Argyll businesses shortlisted stretches from Kintyre to Barcaldine and includes Coll, Mull and Tiree showing that ALL of Argyll and the Isles is seen as an area of excellence.
Given the recent success of local businesses in the Scottish Hotel awards, we are seeing that the tourism markets are focussing on our amazing area and recognising the quality of our product.

Tiree’s standing as an international watersport venue is re-confirmed on a yearly basis by the Tiree Wave Classic windsurfing event. This event helps lengthen our core tourism season into the early autumn…with the rise of Kite-boarding we also now see year round activity on the water…have a surfing school, windsurfing school and a Kiteboarding academy.
Oban as a hub is a fantastic idea…but Oban and Argyll must not forget the inner hebrides…and one wonders why the 3 aformentioned were not present at the event…were contacted ?
