Comment posted School Dinners stooshie: young Martha Payne has the right pedigree by Iain McCallum.

But in fairness, she does compliment some of the meals, it was just the (particularly) miserly ones that the national press highlighted. That said, it is a good blog and well done to a switched on 9 year-old.

I look forward to it reopening, but I also fear that when things like the Wee Pictures close, they never recover. People get out of the habit of going, and no matter what is offered, folk will be doing something else. I heard that when they showed the closing ceremony live there was less than a dozen people in to watch
  • Two major winners last weekend: Mach 1 Stages Rally and Kintyre community
but the astonishing number is that 90 volunteers signed on for marshalling – 80% of whom were local people…….as an exile from Campbeltown I would say that knowing the folk, there is no surprise that so many local people volunteered to help this amazing event run smoothly. That is what they do. You only have to look at the success of the likes of the MoK10k and other events in a place that is as far away from anywhere that you can get to see what the locals will do. And that’s not counting the various fundraising events run every week. Well done to all concerned
  • ‘Mach 1 Stages’ – the inaugural Kintyre car rally is GO for 5th & 6th July
Outstanding effort for getting something like this to South Kintyre. Lets hope, like the 10K that it is the start of something big.
  • MOKRUN 2014 this Sunday with Expo 2014 on Saturday
Brilliant advert for the Toon – again. Well done to the organisers – again. And to everybody in the Wee Toon who make this the best 10K in the country. Working, so can’t make it. Gutted
  • Cinema operator appointed to Campbeltown Picture House
My thoughts exactly when I saw Mr Arthur had been appointed. I don’t doubt his credentials, but there are a finite amount of people with a finite amount of disposable income in the Kintyre area. The good folks in the Wee Toon and surrounding areas already put their hands in their pockets disproportionally for charities and good causes each and every week. They will still only use the Pictures as a treat and watch a film once, no matter how new and good that film is. I still believe that the locals will continue to support the Wee Pictures, because they have fought so hard to keep it, but don’t let the management get too far ahead of themselves

  2. no suprise in the experiance of this 9 year old and school meals. We hear so much about healthy balanced diet yet the very people entrusted to provided guidance and education in this field are failling our youngsters.

If this was a private functioning resturant it would no longer be trading.

    • your probaly right … all the kids would be down the street at the cafe or the chip shop with big polystyrene box of chipps and cheese if they were not made to eat there till secondery school and the dinner ladys would be alone with the salads and baked potatos that are always avalible

  3. What do they expect to get for a 2 pound dinner, if just a piece of fruit will cost how much? And a yogourt?
In the house holdings they don’t do much better either. It a cultural thing. I have never seen people spending money buying and cooking good food.

  4. if you look into what has happend you will find there has been no change at all to the school dinners …the school has a menu system with always a healthy choice and also more “main stream” meals for the kids who will not eat if there is no “junk ” on the plate there is always salad and baked potatos or a choice of main meal off the four week menu perhaps if veg asked the dinner ladys if she could photograph all the choces she has on offer it would give a better reflection of the healthy options that are being passed up
