DB stop your laughing its impolite and rude to laugh at the plight of others and yes more and more communities are owing a share of their local windfarm developments, our own community at Inveraray receives funds from two such developments and we have put the money to very good use for our citizens. Our lives are materially better for the developments, fact, but more importantly we are doing what we can to help climate change by supporting the developments which we can see from our windows, its not enough yet I agree but its our best shot right now and yes its a work in progress, but we are doing something in Inveraray.

Every wind objection is costing the country a fortune and that means less to give in social care or whatever, fact. Also green units attract a premium whether your support the science or not, they are worth a lot of money to a lot of people throughout Europe. Money that Scotland can use to offset fuel poverty if its people wishes and I as a proud Scot do wish to eliminate fuel poverty in Scotland. Thats what the vote is for and why you should speak to your elected officials letting them know what is important to you and what you expect of them in office. So stop laughing, you only have one set of sides, save them, and start doing something like supporting self determination in an independent Scotland were we the citizens can make a difference beyond what we see out of our windows. I care enough to walk my talk, do you? Ask your elected officials to campaign and work for the elimination of fuel poverty in Scotland. It is the Spector of our age.

The yacht by the way was purchased from all those years in industry working her fingers to the bone so she could enjoy the fruits of her hard labour and enterprise in retirement and I fully support her right to enjoy her retirement years Yachting.

Scratch that she has not worked her fingers to the bone, she rides horses and is chauffeured around the country squeezing palm on the large amounts of taxpayers money. Yep very qualified to comment on wind development as hot wind comes out of her mouth in abundance. This support is a shot in the foot I think. Argyll is not a retirement village for rich loafers and the anti Scots sentiment is not overly welcome either.

Holiday Holmes and Yacht Brigade win day, even more Scots in fuel poverty, get a grip where is the balance here?

How do you square this with St Peter at the Pearly Gates. Stopped another wind development which can be seen from my Yacht when sailing, but another 100 people copped it in a landslide due to climate change but I was not directly responsible for that, so its Ok Peter eh!

Would not want her to move the Yacht now, would we!

Water and people power absolutely super. Must be something in the water at Cairndow, they are certainly a driven community that believe in fighting for what is right. I take my hat off to them and wish them good luck with the hydro scheme. I am sure it will be yet another successful victory in a long list.

  2. A great idea from councillor Philand that an event that saw approx 200 people from mid argyll travel to watch Red Star in the final should be appreciated.A great use of tax payers money to show appreciation for all the hard work and time given up by all concerned.

  3. Great stuff! Lets hope the Council acknowledge the efforts of Tarbert, Dunoon and Rothesay too then who won the cup this century meaning Red Star are taking the cup back to Argyll for the fourth time in 9 years. Well done all involved!

  4. Thought for today.

Strange how often negative views lead posts and positive ones are quickly rubbished.

However, the majority thread is mostly on and upwards.

My congratulations to the team and Councilor lead effort to regognise success. An indication of a new era.

  5. What a great idea, there could be a combined civic reception for Red Star and Helensburgh Rugby Club who`s 1st and 2nd teams won their respective league with the 1st`s going on to win The Scottish Cup at Murrayfield with over a thousand locals traveling to the capital.Mon the Grizzlies!!!!!!

    • This was a fabulous achievement,
Overall, the picture is looking like a crying need for a civic reception to celebrate major sporting achievements in Argyll – and the recognition might be a
      spur for more.

  6. I think its fair to say Dougie Philand quite righly is looking after his own patch and has always been a great supporter of sport (which will follow on in his new role with the administration). I recall Oban Saints receiving a Civic Reception following their Premier Two Title win in 1994 but nothing for Campbeltown Boys who won the same league two years later then Campbeltown Pupils who won the 1st Division in 1999 and followed this up to win the Premier Division in 2000. This was an Argyll side winning the top Scottish Amateur League and it wasn’t recognised by the Council. Probably because our elected officials at the time didn’t think to bang their own drum and highlight the achievement. So well done to Dougie for suggesting this and more importantly well done to Lochgilphead Red Star on their triumph. We should all celebrate success at any level of sport and Argyll – the time and dedication alone is worth celebrating and often is over looked. Well done Red Star! :-)

  7. LOL, the SNP/Tory/Independent coalition not talking to each other already. A letter to the press, why not just ask his new boss for a favor. Councillor Philand’s obviously has eye on top job. Civic reception for Manchester City as the boot boy’s granny came from Argyll.
    I’ll be back.

    • Point of fact: the report was that Mr Philand had emailed the incoming Provost – who deals with such matters – with an official request.

  8. So, Why was the previous administration telling us that we would have to save £1.000.000′s of the next decade or so, council employees losing their jobs, no pay rises etc.? If this is not the case, then there must be plenty of funding for new roads, ferries etc! Forget the civic knees up, and fix the roads first. Same old thinking with the new council!

  9. Well done to Lochgilphead Red Star, following in a Coronation Cup Final win of Tarbert in 08..Dunoon Ams 04 and Rothesay Brandanes 03.
A Scottish Amateur Football Cup competition which Oban Saints and Campbeltown and Dunoon Ams cannot play in as they are in the Premier divisions with Rothesay now playing in another West of Scotland league.
Civic reception is a publicity stunt for Dougie Philand in his new Deputy Provost role for the whole of Argyll and Bute.

  10. Sounds a reasonable proposal provided money comes out of local common good type money. Needs to be looked at closely as there will doubless be lots of calls for similar marking of achievements.
Dont think for one minute its a publicity stunt.

  11. A civic reception paid out of the common good fund is an excellent idea. Unfortunately you can be sure that numerous councillors and other “hangers on” will turn up for free food and drinks.
Personally I would invite only the team and their officials plus the provost of Argyll & Bute. Nobody else.
