My sympathies to those involved – hope (possibly against hope) that injuries were minor.
Yet again, though, vast detours had to be put in place (also witness crash involving a coach 3 miles north of Invermoriston on A82 earlier, not to mention the A9 closure two weeks ago tomorrow with a double fatality). I should like to know when our Government is actually going to pay urgent attention to infrastructure outside the central belt?
I will no doubt antagonise SNP supporters by saying that, whereas I previously supported independence, I feel that the more rural and remote areas of Scotland would find themselves in an identical situation with an independent Scotland as the present situation in England (and indeed GB) – i.e. London/SEcentric. Believe me, the English saying about ignoring anything “north of the Watford gap” is not a joke! I fear we will see a repetition here in Scotland come independence. Politicians are the same everywhere,just with varying degrees.

Sorry, but I have to back up Keith McMillan. I know both Brum and Leeds and there are no go areas. I was never bothered in the slightest until I had to spend 2 years of hell in the latter. The intimidation was astonishing, even in broad daylight in major shopping areas. Even when we could stand it no more, the bullying and threats received when selling my property and Asian families wanted to move in resulted in police action when two males of the family trapped me in the garage and grabbed hold of me telling me to sell. That resulted in police action. Sadly, the behaviour of these people reflects badly on those (such as our little local store) Asians more than willing to integrate and work hard.I support no political party so have no axe to grind. It may be that Scotland is lucky in that it has not seen these no go areas and immigrants are more willing to integrate.
As far as this debacle is concerned, I don’t think any of the parties behaved well, but I was shocked by Mr Salmond’s attitude.

We’re not central belt; train journeys and links are abysmal – especially if you’re on an island.It would be really good if one had mobile phone coverage, let alone Wi-Fi and decent broadband would be appreciated – especially by those who pay but can’t get a reliable service!

Blah blah blah, other side to the story, drive to the road you see before you, people constantly taking silly risks, inevitable results, tired of repeating myself.
I understand the guy is alive and in hospital, that there were two bikes involved, neither heavily damaged. (This is local gossip–not firsthand experience.) We’ll probably never know what the cause of the accident was–it simply doesn’t seem to matter the way air and rail accidents “matter”–but I suspect overexuberance.

One peculiar feature of this section of trunk road is the stretch past the station that is slightly narrower (too narrow for trucks & buses to easily pass), has no ‘road narrows’ warning signs, but was reconstructed (rather than just resurfaced) to the same substandard width a few years back. I wonder if there’s some bloody minded highway regulation that says if a road’s got a 30mph limit there’s no need to provide the usual warning signs? Local drivers might be aware of this hazard, but others clearly aren’t.

I sat n the queue with my family for over an hour south of Tarbet. Where were the police? There was no traffic management by the police – it was pathetic. Some vehicles decided to wait for the road to re-open, blocking the lane for cars wanting to use the A82 diversion. This meant a huge line of cars south of Tarbet not knowing if the road was closed, just about to re-open or closed for the day. Not good enough!!
