Great piece. The Battle of Philiphaugh in which two sets of Scots slaughtered each other in a dispute about who should rule England epitomises the ages old Scottish dilemna on which we are now edging towards solution. Perhaps Jamie will be with us when we take the big step.

- First Minister’s call for ‘grown up politics’ countered by order – from the top
“Dave Hill taking the minute – LOL!”I know. I know. What a hoot.
Having been a graduate teacher or a lecturer for a lot of my working like and even a College Principal for soome of it I’m probably best described as functionally illiterate - First Minister’s call for ‘grown up politics’ countered by order – from the top
For Argyll’s report of the SNP’s latest constituency meeting is almost complete fiction.
I took the minute of it.
There is nothing which stops For Argyll checking, from entirely reliable sources, the accuracy of reports it seems to be in receipt of.
This is not done I suspect because there is no intention of accurately reporting the SNP or Michael Russell. - SNP Argyll meltdown: the band plays on
Dave three names (for it is he) only contributes to this site now to point out howlers. - SNP Argyll meltdown: the band plays on
Just to reiterate neither Gordon Blair nor Robert MacIntyre have resigned from any SNP group on any council. They have refused to sign up with a grouping which SNP HQ does not allow them to join. The fact that others are ignoring SNP instructions to do so means that Blair and MacIntyre are the ones in the correct position. - SNP Argyll meltdown: the band plays on
I wonder where For Argyll gets its malicious misinformation.
No formal permission to form a coalition was sought by Cllrs MacIntyre and Blair.
A proposal to form a coalition with a group which did not contain school closers, did not contain care home closers and did not contain people diametrically opposed to the SNP’s central aim was presented as an opportunity to the rest of the SNP group by Cllrs MacIntyre and Blair but was not taken up by the others.
Cllrs MacIntyre and Blair have reiterated on every occasion their loyalty to the SNP, in very direct contrast to others who have defied party orders and publicly stated that they would accept no “outside” interference

There’s a place between Kilmartin and Craignish called the ‘Forty Fool’s Grave’, where in the days of long beards and longer swords the two escort parties for a marriage intended to stop the feuding between two clans met at the march – and because of old enmities and too much spirit forty hands grabbed forty beards, forty hands swung forty swords and forty heads rolled. I hope old enmities don’t create a similar dilemma now.

Sounds like something lost in the myths of time, Robert.
Perhaps we could waylay some of our errant councillors there, though?
There appears to be some smoke and mirrors being deployed at present. Truth will out, though.

I hope you’re right – the thought of council policy being dictated by people who’ve sold their souls for a bag of gold – and who are prepared to sell out their own constituents, as well as freeze out so many councillors representing so much of the rest of the electorate – is intolerable.
