LEAF meeting on wind farms to be open discussion

One of the liveliest discussions developing on a For Argyll story has been that attracting of over 300 comments – on the subject of the LEAF (Lorn Environmental Action Forum)  session this Friday, 30th March, at 7.00pm at Oban Community Fire Station.

It is now to be an open discussion where all views related to this issue will be welcome.

The session will be chaired by Mark Carter of Marine Concern.

The issue is an emotive one.

It is one that will benefit from the foregrounding of the evidence and research of many of the contributors of comments and of others who are equally paying serious attention to all aspects of our potential future energy provision.

This should be a well attended and highly informative session on an issue which, whatever one thinks on the subject, could not be more critical for Scotland’s imminent direction of travel.

One Response to LEAF meeting on wind farms to be open discussion

  1. Thanks to the Newsroom for the above: Just in case you have not been following the debate in the “renewables” section I have reposted this below; -

As a direct result of the continued and growing interest in this debate LEAF have decided to hold an “Open Debate” on the Wind Farm issue at the Oban Fire Station at 7pm on Friday the 30th April. The debate will be chaired by myself; Mark Carter, Chairman of LEAF.

The Lorn Environmental Action Forum (LEAF) is an umbrella organisation of groups and individuals working towards true sustainability, with an aim of putting forward a combined voice on Scotland’s west coast. The members of LEAF have not taken any decision with regard to the Clachan wind turbine site or any other wind turbine sites.

I must confess that I do not know enough on the wind turbine issue to be able to give an informed view; so I would like to invite all, both for and against to attend the meeting where all will be given equal opportunity to put forward their case, through the Chair.

What is important is that for an “informed” debate is that information presented at the meeting can be cited or put forward as people’s personal opinions. Both are equally acceptable, but I for one would like to separate the facts from the emotions. That way I and other members of LEAF can come to their own conclusions: the results of which may form part of a direction from LEAF.

Hope to see you there, Mark
