It is a pity that the BGS do …

Comment posted Islay’s quakes ripple on to Fair Isle by Treble T.

It is a pity that the BGS do not show the depth in miles as well, then it would solve any arguments. For the record a kilometre is five eights of a mile or 0.625 of a mile. Therefore 8 kilometres equate to 5 miles.

Whilst the Green brigade will be happy the shopkeepers are certainly not happy about the 5p bag tax as it is likely to increase shoplifting.
Needless to say the MSP’s did not consider the likely possibility of an increase in shoplifting when they voted in favour of this daft tax.

    Robert.
    I stand by my comments.
With modern technology it is a lot easier getting things done yourself rather than contacting your local councillor and waiting ages for a reply if at all.
I asked a question at the Public Question Time at a MAKI Area Committee meeting in June 2014 and I am still waiting for a reply from Argyll & Bute Council as the councillors and employees present were unable to answer my question.
I was told that they would investigate by question and reply to me by post.
As my question was a bit controversial no doubt it has been “swept under the carpet”, but unlike A & B Council I have not forgotten about it!
  • South Kintyre by-election
If Mary Galbraith is such a good Labour candidate how come she is trying to win Argyll & Bute which is in 64th place on the Labour Party hit list for the Westminster 2015 General Election.
If she was highly thought of she would have been parachuted into a safe Labour seat like some of the offspring of current and former Labour MP’s.
  • When is Argyll and Bute going to publish its mini-count breakdown of the indy referendum vote here?
When will the Yes Argyll group realise that the vote on 18th September 2014 was No 55.3% Yes 44.7%.
Even Michael Russell SNP MSP seems to have difficulty accepting this result as he was at a Yes Argyll meeting at Lochgilphead about a fortnight ago.
There was a photograph of him at the meeting in the Ileach dated 18th October 2014 and the Ileach is published fortnightly.

Any information that Salmond and Swinney did not like they just replied with comments such “stuff and nonsense”.
It is a pity that Salmond and Swinney did not tell the Scottish electorate that they would lose the current UK VAT opt-outs if the Scottish electorate voted Yes for an independent Scotland.

  1. Shortly after midnight on 1 Mar in SW Iceland there were two shocks, the largest being 4.7, which did some damage to property. Further shocks occurred over the next couple of days: some in N Iceland.

Earthquakes on Islay are perhaps related to the Highland Fault which comes down the Great Glen and a branch turns left and runs between the two halves of the island. But they were deep (9–10 km) whereas the one the same day at Arrochar, and there was another one there at 8.34 am today, were much shallower, only 1–2 km.
By the way, the BGS website says the Fair Isle one was 9 km down not your 1.9 miles – or have you got conversion problems!!
