Blah blah blah, other side to the story, drive to the road you see before you, people constantly taking silly risks, inevitable results, tired of repeating myself.
I understand the guy is alive and in hospital, that there were two bikes involved, neither heavily damaged. (This is local gossip–not firsthand experience.) We’ll probably never know what the cause of the accident was–it simply doesn’t seem to matter the way air and rail accidents “matter”–but I suspect overexuberance.

This is true; it was initially shown as a slip on Loch Fyne side just north of Inveraray.I note that TS are yet to master the spelling of the word “Arrochar”.

That photo looks like the slip is in a different place from normal. Can anyone confirm that? - A83: Is there a planning issue in Transport Scotland’s intent to revise the old military road below Rest and Be Thankful?
Is there a source for this story about naming the Rest? I was under the impression the naming was older than the era of the motor car…I once walked up the remains of the old road from Butterbridge, and it occurred to me that it would be a very worthwhile part of a long distance route/cycle route into Argyll.

Go for a walk… all you will hear in Glen Croe is traffic noise. And don’t forget it’s full of forestry. So it’s hardly unspoiled. So an appropriately designed road gallery would on the whole, be a benefit. My sympathies to those involved – hope (possibly against hope) that injuries were minor.
Yet again, though, vast detours had to be put in place (also witness crash involving a coach 3 miles north of Invermoriston on A82 earlier, not to mention the A9 closure two weeks ago tomorrow with a double fatality). I should like to know when our Government is actually going to pay urgent attention to infrastructure outside the central belt?
I will no doubt antagonise SNP supporters by saying that, whereas I previously supported independence, I feel that the more rural and remote areas of Scotland would find themselves in an identical situation with an independent Scotland as the present situation in England (and indeed GB) – i.e. London/SEcentric. Believe me, the English saying about ignoring anything “north of the Watford gap” is not a joke! I fear we will see a repetition here in Scotland come independence. Politicians are the same everywhere,just with varying degrees.

One peculiar feature of this section of trunk road is the stretch past the station that is slightly narrower (too narrow for trucks & buses to easily pass), has no ‘road narrows’ warning signs, but was reconstructed (rather than just resurfaced) to the same substandard width a few years back. I wonder if there’s some bloody minded highway regulation that says if a road’s got a 30mph limit there’s no need to provide the usual warning signs? Local drivers might be aware of this hazard, but others clearly aren’t.

I sat n the queue with my family for over an hour south of Tarbet. Where were the police? There was no traffic management by the police – it was pathetic. Some vehicles decided to wait for the road to re-open, blocking the lane for cars wanting to use the A82 diversion. This meant a huge line of cars south of Tarbet not knowing if the road was closed, just about to re-open or closed for the day. Not good enough!!
