It is not the SNP’s policy to shut Care Homes just for the sake of it, on the contrary in other places throughout Scotland they have fought to keep them open even build new ones.
It is however the responsibility of any Council to ensure any venture is fiscally viable and if not respond appropriately.
When it comes to dealing with elderly residents things get very emotive, this is not a bad thing but should only serve to make sure every other viable option has been looked at. The present stay of execution shows the determination to do so but in the end hard decisions regarding the budgets have to be made……do you rob Peter to pay Paul?…….I agree with some of the above, this matter in the great scheme of things regarding Independence will hold little sway and the petty political scoring is ridiculous.

….and has the MSP in question made a comment on this matter?…..silly question really.

As an OAP who lives on the Peninsula perhaps I can give a thought or two as to why the numbers might be down.
After hearing all the stories both in the media and from friends who use the ferry it took me 3months to even pluck up enough courage to go on this vessel, not to mention the fact of it’s unreliability.
Health & Safety was my job in Local Government, so it was with much interest that I took my first journey…..I was not impressed.
If one was visually impaired or had limited mobility it is a disaster waiting to happen, maybe that is why so many OAP’s have stopped using it. As for mother’s with babies in a pushchair…forget it, especially in rough weather….they could never carry a child down the steep steps.
Maybe we were spoiled with the sea bus but the difference in terms of comfort and the importance of feeling safe is like chalk and cheese.
SPT are treating us with no regard, I would almost go as far as suggesting they would quite like to get rid of the route altogether.
If the SNP led council and government let this happen they will loose much support in this area.
  • Council misuse of public money
It is important because it is taxpayers money…..monies that are needed elsewhere.

  1. Hi all, I was Kayaking, in the area alone on the day in question. I saw his boat in Easdale Harbour, but not him, as I set out. I rounded Insh Island, and on turning the Northern Tip, I saw him up on the lookout halfway up. I continued to see where he had landed, as I needed a leg stretch. His boat was upsidedown, on some big boulders, and it was too awkward to land for me. As I set off for the Northern end of Seil, I saw him returning to his kayak, he looked fine, with nothing to suggest anything was wrong, and saw me, and had oppurtunity to communicate had there been anything wrong. I believe I am the last person to see him alive………God bless.
