Comment posted Minister at Machrihanish to mark community buyout of former RAF airbase by Simon.
Well done MACC – it’s good to see rural communities like South Kintyre and Ulva Ferry school/community group actually doing something constructive.

- Mm. Well I kinda like windfarms; much prefer them to coal/oil fired power stations or nuclear reactors.
Mind you I do like hydro and wave power as well.
C’mon the power has got to come from somewhere… even Alex Salmond’s surfeit of hot air couldnae heat Campbeltown…could it???
- Lowry. Machrihanish – good place for a big wind farm??
Whatdja think?

- SNP tightens party grip on local councillors in further chaos
Dave – “Words fail me.This is all complete and utter nonsense”.Well there’s two points immediately spring to mind from your statement:-
1. Given their nasty vicious civil war, the mess they’ve made of things and the shambolic behaviour of all concerned – to be honest ANYTHING is believable about the SNP in Argyll and Bute right now. Anything that is except words like professional, collegiate, unity, discipline, putting constituents first, etc etc.
2. “Words fail me” – well quite frankly that’s an unexpected bonus
- SNP meeting on Monday may be testing time for mega-coalition proposal
Graeme, “I think you’ll find that the individuals mentioned will be considered past their sell-by date and divisive”Well actually the recent evidence suggests that that statement could apply to most SNP Cllrs, your ex-leader, the constituency chairman, the local MSPs and yourself….

Yes – definitely, well done to all.
The article in Scotland on Sunday “Revealed: Our rural towns on the brink” made very worrying reading. Let’s hope the Campbeltown community really make a go of this buy out and realise the potential that is within its population. Despite the Miniter’s congratulations, the Scottish Government certainly won’t.

Well, there are two or three down there already, fairly well hidden. Another one was refused on appeal last year. The major offshore proposal seems to have bitten the dust, for now, but who knows what else is planned?! In my view, it would be a real shame to see such a beautiful area covered in the things, especially as there would be no increase in job opportunities to compensate.

The Kintyre Offshore Wind Action Group did a superb job in demolishing a proposal for south west Kintyre that was fully astray. Their research, their sheer persistence in refusing to be rolled over and the volume of local support they had were unstoppable. some of the turbines proposed were practically on the beach at Machrihanish.

Alas the on land area just above Machrihanish village is being tested for a future windfarm at this time . I sincerely hope there is enough opposition in the community to sucessfully oppose such a monstrousity

Way to go Newsie, riding to the rescue and keeping the price down to a measely pound instead of mega bucks. Now off you go to Syria, twist Assad’s arm behind his back and tell him to stop killing his citizens. But seriously, a good news story and credit to MACC

we voted many people hoping to start up new job ventures, but alas it seems all the useable building have been takenwith out the majarity getting a chance to bid a fair price on them. all done behind closed doors.

Sounds like there is a need for more buildings then; the airfield has plenty of space and steel portal buildings are cheap, so there’s no excuse for not creating some mini- and micro-industrial units to stimulate local business.
