For Argyll has had a reply to its inquiries from Argyll and Bute Council’s CEO, Mrs Sally Loudon, saying:
‘This matter was brought to my attention late yesterday afternoon.
‘Arrangements are being put in place for a full investigation.
‘The Council does not, nor would ever, advocate the use of covert accounts.’
But do they advocate covert investigations? This has ot be done by an external body as any findings of an internal one will convince nobody.

Absolutely – it has to be done by a truly independent body, otherwise it will be the usual:
Council – Hi, we’ve got a bit of bother – we need an external investigation done to keep everyone happy.
Auditor – Right ho – tell me all about it.
Council – Well X happened and we followed all the correct procedures.
Auditor – That sounds fine – I’ll write you a letter to that effect.
