Comment posted License charges for performances in Argyll and Bute: Russell warns of cultural threat by Iain Hurrel.
Important subject spoiled by aggressive undertones of point scoring against previous administration. Im very sure you would not have writen that, knowing that you have not already sorted it out.
Maybe you could now move on to the ferries and sort that out. However always good to know the out come before it happens.

- Yes Simon I’m sure that’s going to be the way, it does seem to be a sort of retirement plan or re shuffle thing for votes, but I think this time it will be diff, as most said or made out its not about the money anymore its about the area and I’m sure you will start to see Cllrs now forgoing these benefits / payments as a point of principle.
I don’t really have any political stand as it all seems to just get worse and the promises bigger and more out outlandish by the week, with as much back stabbing as poss.
What I find really annoying is newly elected Cllr’s with no track record to speak of slagging off Guy’s like Dick Walsh who most in Scottish politics could not hold a light to and only dream of a career / record like his. I remember only 30 yrs ago seeing Mr Walsh fill his car locally at the petrol station most mornings at around 7 in the morning and not always the same one (spread the love around)in a type of way? 30 yrs on its still the same, week in week out. I’ve never met another Cllr in all that time or seen one work so hard for the people of Dunoon, although it started before that i’m sure?
It makes me smile when you hear the trumpets of what we are going to do and how we are going to do it when we get in. Just that the trumpets stop not long after that and voices are not heard until the next election. there are Hard working Cllrs and that’s why they get back in, in most cases.
Personally I think Mr Walsh has done a truly incredible job of running the area in his time in office. Im glad that’s he’s not back in as Head of the Council as I think he may enjoy it very much more where he is now and has completed a very long shift for his area and ward. he;s better placed to actually make sure the administration get it right and stand by the election promises and not let them away with madness and really messing it all up.
The ferries thing will go away, but prob altogether now.
Anyway well done everyone that want to be a CllrMr Walsh enjoy your new role of watch dog. Back to the pumps no doubt?

- Radically new council group changes all the dynamics: party politics dead in Argyll
Think this now shows were actually doomed on Argyll and Bute, not good for business and growth, a lot if talk over the last few days about things being the first time this has ever happened in Argyll and Bute.Think it’s time we started to look at how we can dissolve the entire council and have new elections for new councillors.
This list reads like the “Titanic” of politics in Argyll and Bute
- Update on SNP meeting
If you have to persuade councillor McCuish to stay then he is not worth much is he? how many would like you to ghink they where of value that theyvwhere persauded to stay, dont make me laugh, I don’t think you would see him go anywhere. Why would you resign and jump off the gravy train at his point in life, and he would do what? What good is a councillor who ran from power? - James Robb, as the cordite clears
H2o
Is that because I don’t agree with you or is it you just do have a argument against what I’ve said? What action do you suggest I take part in? I’m a Argyll voter and my action will be not to ever listen to any SNP all mouth and absolutely no action at all.
What’s going to happen when life gets tough and Scotland is independent will you just run away and give it back to the English? If you can’t run a small shop don’t open a big one.

Fletcher,
With now absolute and total failure of the SNP administration having had three punts at it without success in any way shape or form. If your out enjoying the sun ask anyone in Argyll what they think of the SNP. I think you will find laughing stock sums it up for most now after the ferries and land slides not to mention running out of so called leaders. They have ran faster than Husain Bolt to get out of the administration and back to what they think is safety as opposition, they will never be seen as opposition again in Argyll and Bute just a group of mouth pieces that failed when they had the chance and ran for cover. Or what do you think happened Fletcher?
- SNP departures from administration – was money a factor?
Why money not be the reason here when it’s really the only driver of what has put is in this mess, it’s all about the cashNot heard a word about the souls in Sruan Lodge have we? Just pawns in the power and money game.

Why bothering writing to the CE, just nip into her office as “we understand” or should I say “it is rumoured” that Mike is the unofficial real leader of the “New Dawn” administration. Would it not have been better to have a wee word in Roddy’s ear and let the administration get the credit for the idea? Or is this an indication of the way its going to work? Mike says….

It’s interesting that you think such a cast of well-educated, self-motivated councillors is under the thumb of someone else. Of course the SNP is a team, but it’s a very democratic one and doesn’t support the scenario you’ve imagined here.

Until the new council meet and the administration is ratified Roddy Mccuish and his associates have no control over the council or the employees so they will be unable to start to change anything until then

“Maybe you could now move on to the ferries and sort that out” – fair point Iain.
But I must confess I’m hoping for the usual outraged article going on and on and on and on about all the Cllrs who have sold their principles just to join this rag-bag coalition to get the responsibility payments.’Bought for 30 pieces of silver’ and ‘noses in the trough’ are both sure to feature.
Unless of course the SNP led coalition decide that they don’t want these responsibility payments…..

I very much hope that the more cynical of Iain Hurrel’s remarks prove, in time, to be unfounded – and perhaps early review of the council’s new events licensing policy would be a good start.

Can you clarify what the licence is for and why it is needed?
