Is this an Argyll first? Menfolk cook festive meal for village seniors

This is traditionally called the ‘Furnace Gentlefolk’s Dinner’ – an annual gift from the community to its seniors.

Again traditionally, this Mid-Argyll village festivity has been held in the Furnace Inn, at the heart of the little Loch Fyneside community.

The 2011 event, however, sees a major break with tradition.

The Gentlefolk are to be entertained in the Village Hall by a team of menfolk from the village – using the new kitchen and  emboldened by the spectacular success of the first Men’s Baking competition in the Furnace Gala Day at the end of the summer – and this time cooking for Christmas.

And – take note – they have refused all offers of skivvying from female villagers. This is totally men-only effort.

If they disappoint they may discover that the Gentlefolk aren’t automatically gentle.
