ForArgyll Outtage: DNS and Propagation

Unbeknownst to us the Domain Name Server settings for our domain, ForArgyll.com, were changed on Wednesday.

This meant that we have had intermittent to non-existent service for the last 24 hours. Unfortunately because of the way the system works on the internet, once a domain’s DNS settings are changed it takes up to 24 hours for those changes to be registered across the internet. If you then make another change hot on the heels of the last the disruption is extended. We hope that by the end of play today (24/11/11) we’ll be back on line for everyone. The difference between individual users will be due to which DNS database their connectivity provider uses.

And who made the changes? Well, that we don’t know as yet. Once we do, heads will roll. Virtually of course.
