Oban Lifeboat on a shout to a yacht this afternoon

The Oban lifeboat, Mora Edith Macdonald, launched this afternoon (30 June 2011) to the aid of a 33ft Contessa class yacht, Lady G, which had come to a sudden stop when her propellor picked up the rope anchoring one end of a fleet of lobster creels.

This was just over a mile from Oban Harbour and it took only 10 minutes for the lifeboat to reach the stricken yacht, which had two adults and two dogs onboard.

Coxswain Ronnie MacKillop put crew member Ian Stevenson aboard the Lady G to assist her. The yacht was shortly freed but was left without power.

Mora Edith took the matter in hand and towed Lady G in to Oban Marina on the Island of Kerrera before returning to Oban where she was refuelled and ready for service again at 14.55.
