At the beginning of 2011, Kilmartin House Museum held
a community consultation to get feedback on its plans for development.
The results of the consultation have been incorporated into a Development Feasibility Study by Jura Consultants and Malcolm Fraser architects, who examined the site to see where more space might be created.
The Museum has outgrown its collection store and many of the artefacts that have come into the collections cannot currently be displayed due to lack of space. There is also insufficient room to accommodate schools and a need to improve other visitor services.
Funding to undertake the development study was obtained from LEADER, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, and Museums Galleries Scotland.
The final report has now been received and the Museum is keen for feedback on it.
They would be grateful of our readers were interested to read the report, see the architect’s ideas, and leave comments. The documents will be available from Monday 13th June to 27th June 2011- from 10am to 5pm in the Marion Campbell Library. A key can be obtained from the Museum reception desk.
The report can also be downloaded from the Kilmartin Museum website and comments emailed to museum@kilmartin.org.
The Museum is looking forward to hearing what the community thinks of the plans to create a facility worthy of the internationally important archaeological landscape of Kilmartin Glen.
