ForArgyll Status: Performance Blips and Tech Notes

We had a big outtage this morning, from around 7.45am for around 2 hours,

although the problems were intermittent. This was neither a traffic spike (though we have had those over the last couple of days), nor a server capacity issue, but a server going down issue. The hosting company were investigating an ongoing problem (unspecified) and took the site offline for a while. Tsk! Apologies to everyone who got the “Bad Server” reports.

In the meantime, following comments made on our previous status report, we have stripped down extraneous functionality to try to improve page response times, tightened up this theme (you’ll note slightly more generous line spacing on posts for example) and tidied up the sidebar. We’ve also reset our caching app. and this should also improve performance — in particular the load times of the pages (rather than response times).
