Aimed at beginners, this two day course in dry stone walling will take place at Auchindrain farm township on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th July 2011, from 10.00 to 16.00 each day.
Led by West of Scotland Dry Stone Walling Association, who took a very successful course at Auchindrain in 2010 and who themselves worked on the first and major stage of rebuilding the collapsed Martin’s barn (or the Munro Barn) there.
Auchindrain are keen to make this course a regular event.
It coincides with the second of two consecutive weekends when the project started last year to rebuild Martin’s Bar moves on to its next phase.
What is unique about shi course is that as well as transmitting skills, it adds to the regeneration of this last of Scotland’s Highland farm townships, a place that ha come to live again in today;s society, playing a living role and not simply one that allows access to part of the history of agriculture in Scotland.
Anyone interested in dry stone walling – or dry stone dyking – will be thoroughly inducted into the mysteries on this course with the West of Scotland Dry Stone Walling Association and will know at the end of it, that they have left their physical mark on a site that is one of Scotland’s recognised national collections.
Competition for places was strong last year and there are only 20 places available.
The fee for the course is £50
