DVD of HMS Campbeltown’s final visit to raise money for Campbeltown Picture House

Campbeltown Community Business has hit on what might be described as a phoenix fundraiser, supporting new life frm the ashes of the past.

Members are creating a DVD recording the final visit to Campbeltown in March of HMS Campbeltown, before her decommissioning earlier this month (April 2011).

The DVDs are to be sold to raise money for the Centenary project to develop and secure the suture of the unique art deco Campbeltown PIcture House.

HMS Campbeltown’s last visit was marked by a number of ceremonies, celebrations and events in the ‘wee toon’.

Photographers, professional and amateur, from the town and across Kintyre, have contributed their shots as material from which the DVD will be compiled.

The Campbeltown Picture House, as well as providing a key part of the entertainment in the town, is an important historic building in its own right. No one who visits Campbeltonw fails to notice the quirky little red-roofed charmer nestling among the confident Victorian buildings on the esplanade.

The DVD is to be available in May 2011, available at £10 per copy, with all of the proceeds contributed to the Picture House Centenary Project.

As this will be a souvenir of an unrepeatable historic occasion, demand for this record of the warship’s final visit to her affiliate town before de-commissioning is expected to be high.

To make sure of getting a copy, it would be advisable to reserve it in advance – and this would also help Campbeltown Community Business to gauge the production run they will need. There’s no point aiming to raise money and either spending more than you need in the process or finding yourself unable to satisfy the sales demand.
