The Tree Council, through its Tree Futures scheme, is running two grants programmes helping with tree planting and which are now open to application.
They are:
- Trees for Schools fund
- Community Trees fund.
Application is open to any UK school or community group planning a tree planting project that actively involves children under 16.
The Tree Council’s 2011 National Tree Week runs from 26th November to 4th December and is the focus for these projects.
Those whose applications succeed applicants will organise their planting events in conjunction with the Tree Council’s annual celebration of the new tree planting season.
Projects can be funded from £100 to £700 – the amount granted being 75% of the total cost, with the applicant group finding the remaining 25%.
- Application forms for the Trees for Schools fund can be downloaded from here.
- Applications for the Community Trees fund can be downloaded from here.

There are no events in Argyll so far, hopefully this will inspire groups to take advantage of the opportunity.

This is indeed a great opportunity for the communities and let us pass the word round to potential interested groups. ‘Universal’ benefit I would say.

Thanks for bringing this to people’s attention newsroom. I am going to raise this with my local school to see if we can take advantage of the fruit tree idea – if we can get maybe 7 or 8 appple tree planted in the schol grounds then later down the line the apples can be used as healthy snacks in the school.
