Comment posted Minister at Machrihanish to mark community buyout of former RAF airbase by Islay for ever.
Alas the on land area just above Machrihanish village is being tested for a future windfarm at this time . I sincerely hope there is enough opposition in the community to sucessfully oppose such a monstrousity

Correction – It was SNP councillors who were “happy” for Struan House to close , not me.
I think it is insane to reduce the facilities to care for old people when their numbers are increasing and set to increase much more . - McGrigor writes to Minister on Campbeltown Hospital
Thank goodness we have one MSP willing to speak up for the Kintyre community .
‘Local’ MSP Michael Russell has been nowhere to be seen on these issues .
It’s past time Argyll & Bute had a MSP to fight for the constituency not one who spends his well paid time trying to destroy the United Kingdom . - Argyll and Bute Council Coalition Cup 2013: runners and riders
Has jockey Donald Kelly given up trying to ride two horses at once ?
Elected as a Conservative & Unionist he prefers now to be known as Argyll First . - First Minister’s choice not to condemn mob behaviour proves Farage point
The issue is not whether people like Nigel Farage , the issue is whether we live in a country where we have free speech .
Clearly , there are people in Scotland , in this case left wingers who support separation who believe their opponents should be silenced by violence if necessary .
Worrying and disgusting as that fact is , the most disturbing aspect of this episode has been the response from what could be called the establishment in Scotland .
The First Minister , other MSPs including all the SNP MSPS ,Green MSP Patrick Harvie , BBC Scotland , Scottish Socialists and too many others have failed completely to defend the right of an individual to free speech against the threats of a mob . Indeed , some have clearly relished the fact that an Englishman got roughed up in broad daylight in one of Scotland’s main public spaces .
Sadly we are all the losers . Many like our friend above will now see Scotland as a place to avoid , as an inward looking anti English intolerant land .
Representatives and supporters of the Conservative Party in Scotland have long had to suffer personal abuse , threats and intimidation from these sorts of people and now it appears as if the terror has spread from attacks in cyberspace and on the Conservative Party to anyone who dares to challenge the Tommy Sheridan view of how Scotland should be .
Perhaps we should not be surprised when we have a so called Justice Minister who openly flouted the law over the Community Charge . When Ministers start choosing which laws to obey then the future for our country is bleak and a wave of emigration the likely outcome if they were ever to achieve their ambition of a one party state . - Council latest: meaning well is not enough
Who can forget all the talk of the “progressives” gaining control of Argyll & Bute after the last local elections .
It appears to me , rather than progress the area is going backwards at speed .

Well done MACC – it’s good to see rural communities like South Kintyre and Ulva Ferry school/community group actually doing something constructive.

Yes – definitely, well done to all.
The article in Scotland on Sunday “Revealed: Our rural towns on the brink” made very worrying reading. Let’s hope the Campbeltown community really make a go of this buy out and realise the potential that is within its population. Despite the Miniter’s congratulations, the Scottish Government certainly won’t.

Well, there are two or three down there already, fairly well hidden. Another one was refused on appeal last year. The major offshore proposal seems to have bitten the dust, for now, but who knows what else is planned?! In my view, it would be a real shame to see such a beautiful area covered in the things, especially as there would be no increase in job opportunities to compensate.

The Kintyre Offshore Wind Action Group did a superb job in demolishing a proposal for south west Kintyre that was fully astray. Their research, their sheer persistence in refusing to be rolled over and the volume of local support they had were unstoppable. some of the turbines proposed were practically on the beach at Machrihanish.

Mm. Well I kinda like windfarms; much prefer them to coal/oil fired power stations or nuclear reactors.
Mind you I do like hydro and wave power as well.
C’mon the power has got to come from somewhere… even Alex Salmond’s surfeit of hot air couldnae heat Campbeltown…could it???

Way to go Newsie, riding to the rescue and keeping the price down to a measely pound instead of mega bucks. Now off you go to Syria, twist Assad’s arm behind his back and tell him to stop killing his citizens. But seriously, a good news story and credit to MACC

Sounds like there is a need for more buildings then; the airfield has plenty of space and steel portal buildings are cheap, so there’s no excuse for not creating some mini- and micro-industrial units to stimulate local business.
