New District Procurator Fiscal appointed for Campbeltown and Dumbarton

The Lord Advocate, the Right Honourable Elish Angiolini QC, has appointed John Service as District Procurator Fiscal for Dumbarton and Campbeltown.

Mr Service has worked for the Crown Office of the Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) for 26 years and brings extensive experience to his new role. Immediately prior to this appointment, he was Deputy Divisional Procurator for Glasgow East Division.

Mr Service says: ‘I am privileged to have been asked by the Lord Advocate to lead the excellent prosecution team in Dumbarton.

‘I am delighted to have been given this opportunity to use my experience as a prosecutor to make a difference in the Dumbarton and Campbeltown area.

‘I am keen to build on the work of my predecessor, Laura McPherson, in supporting victims of crime and also in working with criminal justice colleagues to support local initiatives to challenge drugs and knife crime. I plan to continue to do this by supporting these local initiatives and also by tackling crime through effective investigation and robust prosecution, where appropriate.

“‘ have already had the opportunity to meet with others in criminal justice organisations in the Dumbarton and Campbeltown areas.

‘I am looking forward to working with them to address issues in the area, including any culture of violence, domestic abuse, sexual crimes and persistent offending which can be the scourge of local communities’.
