5.00 pm on Friday December 17th 2010 is the deadline for the new community ballot issued by the Machrihanish Airbase Community Company (MACC) . This is noted in the Events Calendar on this site, to act as a reminder.
MACC has for some considerable time been working flat out to put together a viable proposal to buy the former RAF base at Machrihanish in Kintyre from the Ministry of Defence which is currently disposing of it.
The intention is to develop it as a complex resource to contribute to the sustainability of this most remote of all of Argyll remote communities – and it comes at a time when Campbeltown needs to flex its muscles to ensure the survival that seems to be slipping back in current political priorities.
Ballot papers have been sent out to all eligible voters in the required PA28 6 area.
The Ballot has been funded by HIE and Argyll & Bute Council and arranged with support from the Scottish Government Community Assets Branch.
The deadline for the return of ballot papers – as noted first above – is 5.00pm on Friday 17th December 2010.
Prepaid envolopes are included with the Ballot papers so all that is needed is to detach the Ballot paper at the perforation, put a cross in the appropriate box, put the Ballot papaer in the envelope and post it – in good time to make sure it reach The Burnet Building in Campbeltown by the deadline. In the current weather conditions and with th weight of Christmas post, take no chances. Complete the ballor according to your informed views (and the Business Plan is linked below), complete the paper as instructed and get it in the post.
MACC is hoping for another demonstration of support from the community as massive as the last time so that progress can be made in the work to acquire this unique asset for the benefit of the community.
Here is the final MACC business plan: Final business plan December 2010 incl. Appendices

Argyll & Bute Council are supposedly scarce of money yet are partly financing this ballot .
Every ballot paper is numbered – so much for a secret ballot
