Tonight (21st December 2010), in an interview on Oban FM Radio, Sir Jimmy Savile paid tribute to his position as an Honourary Member of Oban Lifeboat Crew.
Sir Jimmy has, on two occasions, supported Oban Lifeboat Station’s Open Days and has been appointed the first ever Honourary Crew Member.
On these Open Days he proved a massive hit with his charm and his appeal to all age groups.
The older generation, for whom such matters were the norm, particularly warmed to his insistence on ‘Please’ and ‘Thank you’ from youngsters requesting photographs and autographs. Thanks to his unflagging efforts these events were tremendous successes.
When it was suggested that he relax for a while, Sir Jimmy, who offered his services for no fee, typically replied: ‘I’m here to work’, and work he did!
Oban Lifeboat Station is hugely grateful to him for his support and work on its behalf.
