Council making additional room for school reps at 25th November meeting

Charles Reppke, from Argyll and Bute Council, of whom we had enquired about the legal position of the Council in effectively excluding members of the public who wished to attend this meeting, has just assured us that the Council is making more space than usual available for the meeting on 25th November 2010.

Since the meeting will decide whether or not the school closure proposals will be sent for statutory public consultation, the Council is aware that representatives from the various schools involved will want to be present.

Its intention is to try to accommodate one representative from each school. No advance notice of attention to attend is necessary. Council staff will arrange this on the day.

  1. Just 1 representative!!!!!!!!!…….running scared are they? Why not move it to a larger venue and face the people who voted for them?
Great former article from ‘For Argyll’..naming the Councilors, I bet the phone wires are red hot tonight.

  2. Last time many folk travelled to Kilmory to try and influence councillors only to find that the Administration had decided in advance to postpone a decision. It would have saved much time and expense for all those protesters if this was made public in advance. This time if the Independent Administration have secured support to again postpone a decision will the Council Leader do the decent thing and let it be known to all those groups organising days off work, paying for buses, paying for childcare etc to attend on Thursday.

Our group like many others will be travelling a substantial distance at considerable personal expense. It would be fair if the council and it’s officials stopped treating the electorate with distain. Forargyll and facebook have been the main source of information for our communities. The council appears to be doing its utmost to keep the public uninformed as much and for as long as possible. Hardly credible behaviour!
