Easdale Island’s Puffer Bar officially the best Community Pub for 2010

Easdale Island’s Puffer Bar and Restaurant is now officially the Best Community Pub of the Year - in the Scottish Licensed Trade News Awards 2010.

The award was made before an audiEnce of 700 at a ceremony in GlasGow on Thursday night (21st October 2010). Keren Cafferty of The Puffer says she doesn’t think she can get a copy of the official photo taken on the night, ‘which is a shame as we were all glammed up’.

The judges citation in the award to The Puffer says: ‘A business with a difference that lies at the heart of the tiny island of Easdale, once a centre of slate quarrying, just off Scotland’s west coast beyond Oban. The Puffer takes its inspiration from the Vital Spark-like cargo boats which provided a lifeline to coastal communities, just as it does now on its own island. The business serves locals, tourists and holiday home owners, provides meeting facilities and is hooked into all aspects of the current campaign to revitalise the area’.

The team at The Puffer have asked us to pass on: ‘Huge thank you to all our wonderful customers, near and far and especially on Easdale Island, who have helped us win this award. Your support has been amazing’.

And there’s a promise attached to the thanks: ‘A St. Andrews party is in the pipeline to celebrate our win in conjunction with McEwan’s the Category sponsor.’

Watch this space. We’ll make sure you know all about it in good time.

Our own congratulations all round for a well deserved win.
