Connectivity problems at ForArgyll.com

‘We’ve had a massive problem with connectivity and email at ForArgylls newsroom since Wednesday evening.

Email is now working after a fashion but our broadband service is not. It seems to be a local problem rather than a site specific one – but we’ve virtually been gagged for 40 hours.

While our service provider attempts to galvanise BT, the newsroom has decamped to a sympathetic host with working broadband to get some news up.

With the weekend coming up, we have no idea how fast this is going to be resolved. All we can say is that frustration and blood pressure are rising in tandem.

Huge apologies all round. We’re doing all we can. Please bear with us.

    • Looks like the email & connectivity problem is continuing. But also that this hasn’t affected our inbox and that the emails are being held for download. We’ll revert to everyone as soon as the problem resolves itself. Thanks.

  1. It’s all BT’s equipment and BT’s problem. Using another ISP just puts another layer of hassle on top. We all love to hate BT, but they are the real providers so for that reason we use BT Broadband.

    (I don’t buy my electricity from British Gas either . . . )

    Hope it’s all sorted soon.

  2. Using another ISP does not add another layer of hassle, it simply removes BT Retail from the equation.

Openreach (local loop) => BT Wholesale (wholesale access to ADSL platform) => BT Retail (provision of end user service) => End user

    vs

Openreach => BT Wholesale => Another ISP (AAISP, Zen, IDNet) => End user

The regulatory framework does not allow BT to treat its group compaines prefferentially and some ISPs such as AAISP have a reputation for following up problems much more aggressively than other ISPs.

BT Wholesale can also be taken out of the equation altoghether if your luckly enough to have a Local Loop Unbundling Operator at your exchange

Openreach => LLUO (Sky, C&W, Be*) => End user
