With Piping Live! 2010 taking Glasgow by storm this week, BBC ALBA is delighted to announce that it will be providing extensive coverage of Piping Live! 2010.
The Gaelic channel is set to broadcast four one hour programmes, featuring performances from some of the top acts throughout the festival – including Breabach and Fred Morrison.
An additional hour-long programme will focus on the World Pipe Band Championships which take place in Glasgow on Saturday 14th August and which will feature on BBC ALBA later in 2010.
Top Gaelic performer and musician Julie Fowlis will host the coverage from this year’s festival of piping, one of the most exciting annual celebrations of international piping and Scottish culture.
- The first programme from Piping Live! 2010 will be screened on Saturday 28th August at 9pm on BBC ALBA and will feature ‘Suite for Alan’ which blends classical music and the music of piping legend Duncan Johnstone.
- The second programme features a slice of life from the street café and Fred Morrison in concert. It will air on Saturday 4th September with the remaining programmes being broadcast later in the year.
This year, organisers have also added a programme of Gaelic events and piping films to the official event schedule.
Òrain nam Pìobairean (The Song of the Pipes) will include film screenings, workshops and Gaelic taster sessions which will take place at the Centre for Contemporary Arts (CCA) in, Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow.
Piping Live! has established itself as one of the world’s top celebrations of piping and Scottish culture, giving Glasgow an estimated economic boost of around £2.4 million. This year’s festival will showcase a diverse blend of traditional and modern piping from the stars of the international scene to some of today’s most electrifying young musicians at venues including The Old Fruitmarket and the National Piping Centre.
