Islay’s Stormcats sends new Stormbreaker north

Argyll’s GRP boat builders, Stormcats, based in Islay and Scotland’s biggest, has just delivered yet another new model – the 710 Stormbreaker Tourer – northwards to its new owner.

Stormbreaker, aka The Midge, has gone to the Anderson family of Melfort House.

On its way north it met 3 metre seas going through the Sound of Jura, not to mention heavy overfalls but Stormbreaker came through with literally flying colours – doing the 56miles of the route from Islay to Loch Melfort in 2 hours 20 minutes, averaging 22 knots.

The Midge is fitted out to the Anderson’s specific layout requirements with custom-made seats from Outhill and total seating for 11 persons.

Her equipment includes Garmin GPS, Garmin Sounder, Standard Horizon DSC VHF, Plastimo offshore compass and Fusion iPod music system.

With a top speed of 33 knots The Midge cruises smoothly at 24 knots. She’s fitted with a 115 hp Evinrude and has a 6 hp Tohatsu Auxilliary.

Her hull design offers an exceptionally dry ride, a very stable platform, excellent load carrying capacity. She’s a safe family and fishing boat.

The Stormbreaker model looks like filling another niche in the market for the innovative Stormcats.
