Four pints a minute success for Fyne Ales at World Pipe Band Championships

Fyne Ales at World Pipe Band Champipnships

No surprises there – great ale and a great event, natural partners. Argyll’s Fyne Ales proved a huge hit with the thirsty crowds at the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow last Saturday (14th August).

Is this the ale that tunes the pipes?

Jamie Delap, Fyne Ales Managing Director says: ‘It was a fantastic day and very busy.  We calculated that we served around four pints every minute for eight hours solid’.

And we make that 1,920 pints. The Strathspeys must have been quite something but the Piobaireachds will have been out of place.

After our calculated interruption, Mr Delap continues: ‘The majority of our customers were new to Fyne Ales and judging by the number of people asking where they could find their nearest stockist, it was clear that they enjoyed the experience.  I think that most came back for more’.

The exciting up and coming brewery, based in Cairndow at the head of Loch Fyne, has collected a welter of awards since its inception ten years ago, including Best Ale for Highlander and Best Stout for Vital Spark at the prestigious International Beer Challenge 2010.

Fyne Ales Hurricane Jack – lash down alll movable objects – also won the Glasgow CAMRA Beer of the Year Award.

The brewery is currently planning the launch of new seasonal ale in early September and is inviting suggestions for a name for the new beer through its Fyne Ales Facebook page.

Jamie Delap says: ‘The new ale is a copper coloured bitter with maize added to give a touch of sunshine. We’re looking for a name that reflects either this or our local heritage, in line with our other beers.  Here at Fyne Ales, we believe in producing only the best quality beers and all the signs are that our customers agree with us’.

The photograph above shows: Front row (l-r) Richard Polanski, Elaine Polanski and Jamie Delap of Fyne Ales take a break with some thirsty Irish pipers. (This looks like a cultural shift of responsibility. Listen – the familiar piping tune is The Drunken Piper not The Drunken Irish Piper.)
