Here is a job opportunity with a highly capable community and exciting company already on the road to going somewhere – into the woods.
On 23rd July 2010, Bute Community Land Company (BCLC) completed the acquisition of 161 hectares of forestry land within Rhubodach Forest on behalf of the community of Bute.
This completed a journey which began in August 2009 when the land was placed on the market by its owners Lord and Lady Attenborough.
Over the intervening period BCLC successfully galvanised the local community culminating in a huge vote of support in the largest community ballot at that time – 2,739 people voted and 2,557 of them voted ‘Yes’.
With ownership of the forest safely in its back pocket, the company is now looking to recruit a Forest Project Manager to take the development of Rhubodach Forest forward and deliver on the aspirations of the community.
Interviews of shortlisted candidates will be held in Rothesay on Friday 17th September 2010.
All details of the job and of the application procedure are on the BCLC website.
These are very professionally conceived and presented. The job requires the familiar hyperactive master-of-all-trades that community enterprises have no option but to ask and to hope for.
We advise candidates less acquainted with professional appointments systems to pay particular attention to the Person Specification in their application.
You will find seven attributes listed as ‘desirable’ and seven listed as ‘essential’.
You need to show in your application where and how you meet these requirements. If you cannot offer all of the ‘desirables’, this is no barrier to application.
But any competent application will need to show how it meets every one of the attributes listed as ‘essential’ because the company cannot appoint anyone who cannot deliver on everything that is perceived as ‘essential’. So look at what your experience to date adds up to and make your case.
This can be a great job, for a great community company and in a great part of the world. It needs a great appointment.
This could be you. Read the details and contact BCLC for any clarifications you might need. Take it from us, BCLC will not want you to rule yourself out.
