2 more shouts for Oban lifeboat: 4 in 39 hours

With two recent shouts already behind her, the Oban lifeboat, Mora Edith Macdonald, launched again this morning – in the small hours, at 00.51 hours. The launch was in response to a report from the Ocean Youth Trust’s Alba Endeavour,  that she had observed a Red flare in the area of Grass Point on Mull, the Dubh Sgeir Rock and the West side of Kerrera.

By 02.24 hours this area had been searched to no avail. The lifeboat then made a further search of the mouth of Loch Spelve and, again, found nothing.

The Mora Edith Macdonald was refuelled and ready for service again at 04.15 hours.

Then, in under two hours, the same crew were at sea again, before 06.00 hours.

This time it was a short trip – just across the bay to Oban Marina off the Isle of Kerrera,  carrying two Paramedics who were there to bring a gentleman who had fallen ill on a yacht berthed at the marina to hospital in Oban.

In an exceptionally busy week-end, the lifeboat’s four launches (so far), in a period of 39 hours, have taken it to a Pregevac (evacuation of a pregnant woman), a capsized Canoeist, to investigate a report of Red flares (emergency signal) and to a Medevac (a medical evacuation).

The lifeboat service survives entirely by public donations and with volunteer crews, proving annually just how centrally we all value the security it provides.
