6 hour shout for Oban lifeboat

The Oban Lifeboat, Mora Edith Macdonald, was launched this morning at 10.01, to go to the assistance of the 40 ft yacht Tarka, aground on a rock off the North East corner of Torsa, an island at the North end of the island of Luing.

The lifeboat arrived on scene at 10.36 and reviewed the situation before Coxswain Ronnie MacKillop took the decision to make no effort to tow the casualty off on the falling tide.

To do so might have damaged the yacht which was stable enough and not making water.  The lady and gentleman crew of the yacht were re-assured that the lifeboat would stand-by until it was thought the right time to attempt to refloat her.

At 15.02 the lifeboat gently eased the casualty off the rock without further damage to the hull.

The Mora Edith MacDonald departed the scene at 15.10, arriving in Oban at 16.05. She was refuelled and ready for service again at 1630 hours.
