On Saturday 26th June at 2.30pm at the Castle Gardens in Dunoon, there is the dedication of a floral display to celebrate 100 years of Guiding.
The centenary display has been created and installed by Argyll and Bute Council in response to a request from the Trefoil Guild. The Guild is the support organisation for guiding, mainly but not exclusively made up of former guiders.
At Dunoon tomorrow will be two prominent members of the Guild from Islay, looking forward to seeing the design of the display and grateful to the Council for supporting the event in these hard times.
Dorothy Carmichael is a former editor of The Ileach and has a great affection for the island’s fortnightly newspaper. She says, though, that guiding has been her life. Also living in Port Ellen, her friend Catherine Galt, who will be at the ceremony tomorrow, took over Islay guiding from Dorothy on her retirement.
The Dunnon guides will be the main focal point of tomorrow’s dedication.
