Campbeltown Museum will be closed to the public for 4.6 weeks from Monday 24th May 2010. The closure will allow the roof, which has leaked for some time, to be properly repaired. This work is part of the council’s 2010/-2011 capital programme.
Councillor Neil Mackay, Argyll and Bute’s spokesperson for Arts, Culture, Leisure and Sport, says the work has been badly needed: ‘The repairs will include replacement of all the glass in the skylights with a special reflective glass which will control the amount of light and heat coming into the gallery on hot, sunny days – and the amount of heat going out on cold ones.
‘This will create a better environment in which to store and display the valuable items of Campbeltown’s history which the museum holds’.
Argyll and Bute Council will make a further announcement later in the summer when the museum is ready for re-opening.
