Argyll’s Kilberry peninsula is already a magical place – timeless, reflective and tranquil.
Thee characteristics were part of the inspiration for the establishment there of the Crear studio, ‘space to create’. This is at once a creative refuge for artists and musicians, a venue for musical masterclasses led by top international musicians and an intimate concert venue.
Given the nature and location of Kilberry, it is a unique kind of concert venue. You can’t just ‘pop along’. It takes time to get to Kilberry and even more time to move through it.This means that the concert season is a summer season and some of the events take place in the afternoon.
The time and the experinece of getting to Kilberry and to Crear plays to the advantage of both. It creates an almost ritual approach to an experience. One world gets left behind and another becomes progressively present so that the point of arrival marks a state of readiness for what is to come.
And after the concerts, the way of leaving enables what all completed rituals require – a managed return to the mundane, bringing the boon from the experience home like treasure to store against the future.
On a more prosaic but equally enjoyable note, the organisers of Crear know that by the time you get there and have enjoyed the concert you may welcome some sustenance.
So after the concerts, the audience join the artists for drinks and delicious canapés (included in the ticket price) – with a backdrop of the Paps of Jura, Islay, Gigha, and the Irish Coast. And another of Crear’s strengths is that and children are very welcome.
