Rothesay survey on waterfront regeneration

Rothesay residents, businesses and visitors are getting the opportunity to take part in a survey on the town and its future.

The survey is being carried out as part of the Council’s £30m CHORD programme, designed to regenerate the waterfronts of five key towns – Campbeltown, Helensburgh, Oban, Rothesay and Dunoon.

The Council is in the process of appointing a design team to take the proposals for Rothesay’s Pavilion to its next stage.

A series of resident, business and visitor surveys are now being undertaken to gather the views of the widest possible group of people.

  • A postal survey has already been issued to residents, with responses collected in pre-paid envelopes by specialist research company EKOS.
  • Business interviews are being undertaken this week, with EKOS researchers in the town on Thursday to carry out face-to-face interviews with 30 local businesses.
  • An in-street survey is also planned for Friday 30th April and Monday 3rd May -  to coincide with the Bute Jazz Festival. This survey is targeted at visitors to the town who will be asked by interviewers about their views and perceptions of Rothesay.

Councillor Len Scoullar, Chair of the Rothesay CHORD Project Board, has urged all those approached to take part.

‘It is vital to the overall success of Rothesay’s CHORD programme that it takes account of the views of those who will be most affected by it – the town’s residents, visitors and businesses,” he added.

‘All responses from the three surveys are completely confidential and no information on individual responses, or details of respondents, will be passed to the Council or any other third party.

‘The results of the surveys will be written into a report of key findings, which will be submitted to the Council at a later date’.
