More than 250 Argyll residents have signed up to a scheme which could see them receive a one-off £65 rebate on their council tax if they buy cavity wall or loft insulation from Scottish Gas.
The offer is open to all Argyll and Bute residents, wherever they live, including the islands.
And even though the response to the offer has exceeded expectations, Scottish Gas has guaranteed to carry out the necessary home surveys within six weeks of customers applying.
Councillor Robert Macintyre, who launched the scheme in February, believes the response shows how committed Argyll and Bute residents are to reducing their energy bills.
He explains: ‘It’s great that so many people have already signed up for what could result in triple savings. Those who qualify will see their energy bills reduced, their council tax bill reduced and their carbon footprint reduced. It’s a fantastic offer from Scottish Gas and Argyll and Bute Council and I urge all residents to apply.
‘There was initially some confusion over which areas of our region qualified for the offer but it’s now been confirmed that everyone is eligible, wherever they live’.
Alison Swan of Scottish Gas says, ‘We’re delighted to be working with Argyll and Bute Council on this initiative. Anyone who wants to know more about the scheme should:
- call our customer service line: 0845 605 2535
- quote reference number ABCT
- Lines are open 8am-8pm Monday-Fri day and 8am-1pm on Saturdays’.
Other energy efficiency schemes are available and the council encourages householders to call the independent Energy Savings Scotland Advice Centre on 0800 512082 to discuss whether this is the most suitable scheme for them. Lines are open from 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday.

Two questions on this:
Do those people who’ve signed up for this scheme have to change to Scottish Gas if they’re not existing customers?
And will the Easdale Islanders who’ve signed up for the Scottish Gas GreenStreets scheme get a £65 Council Tax rebate?
