It is now four years since the Ormsary gardens had an open day to raise funds for charity – but it will be possible to visit again on Sunday, 16th May. During this time the the historic walled garden has undergone various changes.
Last year James Lothian ,who was gardening with Mrs Campbell of Ormsary in the 1840s, was finally acknowledged by the leading horticultural historians on both sides of the Atlantic, as the first pioneer of alpine gardening.
He then went on to establish the Kilmory Castle gardens and later he had a seedsman and landscaping business in Campbeltown.
Several years ago a woodland garden was planned but and just as Tommy McCrae started planting it, a huge stormed flattened the largest trees, so a new avenue garden has been created.
The woodland garden has been revived by Jim Davidson who has brought a wealth of knowledge to the gardens.
These two new areas will be open for the first time this year.
This open day will be for the benefit of the MS Centre,The Red Cross, Lochgilphead, and South Knapdale Parish Church.
