At 11.30am on Monday 26th April, BBC Radio Scotland is airing a programme: Black Watch, 3 Scots: A war in their own words.
This recounts the experiences in this ongoing war of soldiers in the Black Watch, once a regiment now the 3rd Battalion of the Royal Regiment of Scotland.
The Black Watch is publishing, in the autumn of 2010. a book with first-hand accounts of life on the frontline in Afghanistan. This programme is based on that book.
The battalion, based at Fort George east of Inverness, undertook a six-month tour of duty in the country last year, its first deployment to that theatre of war.
Five soldiers lost their lives – one of them the young Corporal Robert McLaren from near Bunessan in the Ross of Mull.
30 others were wounded in action and 51 were evacuated back to the UK.

God will bless them
