Can you take the heat of the curry and the tension of a night in the thickly haunted Inveraray Jail? If you can manage the curry but not the Jail, you can sponsor the members of the Inveraray and District Pipe Band who haveĀ no choice in the matter.
They’re running a series of fund raisers to help pay the costs of their first year in the top grade of competition.
So, get out the cooling glasses of water for the curry, think clickety-click for the bingo and open the wallet for the pipers and drummers who may hear sounds from another place during their long night in the cold and spiritually active jail.
May 28th – this Sunday, at 6.30pmfor 7.00pm, is the Curry and Bingo night at Inveraray’s award-winning George Hotel. The hotel has long been a generous supporter of the band, which is very appreciative of its warmth of support.
Anyone interested in going should let Kris Clark at The George know in advance, so that they know the numbers they will be catering for.

Then on 3rd April – from 10.00pm-08.00am the following morning – the big challenge: something around fifteen of the members of the Grade 1 band will do the lock-in at Inveraray Jail – much beloved as source material by a range of associations investigating paranormal phenomena.
This began as a laugh, but as the date approaches and the stories come tumbling in of what who has seen, heard – and felt – what in various parts of the jail, nerves are beginning to make their presence felt.
There’ll be no home comforts but the Jail is waiving the fee it charges Paranormal investigators for night stints.
Expect tales in the morning so tall that even a fisherman would blush.
If you’re interested in sponsoring this toe-tingler, talk to any of the and members or hand in your donations at The Royal Bank in Inveraray.
Pipe Major, Stuart Liddell, is hoping that his pipers and drummers at least escape in time for their first competition of the season – at the Gourock Games on Sunday 9th May.
(And on Saturday 1st May, starting at 9.30am at Inveraray & District Junior Piping & Drumming competition will be held at Inveraray Primary School. A total of 120 entries have been received for this year’s event.)
