Oban’s RNLI Lifeboat, Mora Edith Macdonald, was tasked at 10.55 today (Sunday 28th March) to assist Oban Police in the recovery of the body of a male spotted floating adjacent to the lifeboat berth.
The lifeboat crew recovered the body using the lifeboat’s inflatable ‘X’ boat.
The identity of the person is not currently known.
It’s difficult for those of us who do not do such work to appreciate the spectrum of pressures the volunteer lifeboat crew experience in this job. Called to a recovery such as this one, every crew member must be wondering if they will recognise the person involved.
These are special people – in skills, community commitment and temperament. They do a critical job. There is no one who does not appreciate and respect them.
