We reported that the Argyll charity, Mary’s Meals, based in Dalmally, had been shortlisted for one of the nationwide Most Admired Charities Awards.
Last night, at a ceremony in London’s Canary Wharf, they learned that Mary’s Meals was runner up in the Most Innovative Charity Award to the St Giles Trust, working with former offenders.
The national profile the charity has now acquired through its second place in these awards, will play strongly to its advantage in increasing the donations that keep its unique service running.
Mary’s Meals works to a clever formula to feed children in some of the poorest countries in the world, while simultaneously making sure they get an education. The charity provides a nutritious meal a day through schools.
It is currently asking for donations for its work in Haiti, where it has been involved since 2006, in what is described as the world’s worst slum, Cite Soleil in Port au Prince.
Te Mary;s Meals team at the event felt what a really really Ab Fab achievement this was. The Actress Joanna Liumley was the start of the show, receiving the award for Celebrity Charity Champion for her superb work for the legendary Nepalese soldiers who have served Britain so well, for so long, for so little – the Gurkhas.
