Laurel and Hardy at Benderloch

Laurel and Hardy

In the light of today’s news that Mull has lost the Tour of Mull Rally. it is entirely appropriate that Mull Theatre is currently on tour with a Laurel and Hardy show. ‘Another fine mess you’ve got us in to.’

However, at the Victory Hall in Benderloch on 23rd March, the island’s theatre company presents an affectionate look at the lives of the most successful comedy team in history.

Laurel & Hardy lifts the bowler hats off two charming and very funny men, Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy, looking at their lives and loves, giving fascinating insights into their off-screen relationships and their personal joys and heartaches. The play contains many of their finest and best loved comedy routines, musical numbers, songs and dances.

This was the first play by Scottish poet and playwright, Tom McGrath, who died in April 2009.

  1. I would be grateful if you would take the reference to the Tour of Mull Rally out of this preview for Mull Theatre’s show. The two events are in no way linked, and it is flippant to suggest they are. Thank you.

  2. I wonder who Sheena Miller is that she feels able to dictate what is or is not appropriate for a news blog to commentate upon. T=In this case the correlation is, sadly, fairly clear and is there in the first sentence of the piece. There is nothing here that should do anything for the Mull Theatre show other than to publicise it.I am fairly sure that Tom McGrath would have had no problem with this.

I sincerely hope that the reference will remain and that others may comment as they feel fit.

    • For Colin MacKenzie: The reference will certainly remain and, as you say, it gives the show an ironic context and will put no one off seeing it. Sense of humour failure.
