Harry Lauder’s sheherd’s crook sold for £5,800

In an article published in advance of the auction of Lauder memorabilia and artefacts at Shapes in Edinburgh, we wondered if the shepherd’s crook in the catalogue had ever found its way with Lauder to the top of Beinn Mhor, his favourite hill in Cowal.

The crook obviously carried powerful evocations of the legendary Scots entertainer. Going for £5,800, it was the single most expensive item at the sale, with auctioneers, Shapes, instructed by the Lauder family and taking bids from all over the world.

The total raised at the auction yesterday (6th March 2010) for the collection of Lauder’s personal and stage artefacts was over £12,000.
