An otter, named Elvis by Tobermory residents in Argyll’s Isle of Mull – because of the Brylcreamed look of his wet head, is to have a commemorative statue raised to him by the town now mourning his loss.
The accident-prone mammal was a harbourside companion of local fishermen , entertained by his adventurous – not to say foolhardy, antics. The cost of some of the more ill-advised of these escapades was a lost tooth and a broken tail, both of which were identifying features.
No one knows when or how he died but his body has been was found under an upturned boat. Tobermory folk say that he hasn’t been seen in his usual haunts since last year.
A fund is now established to enable Mulleachs and others to contribute to the statue to this mischievous little otter whose memory is a fond one for all who knew him.
