The 2300 Club, which has been running the Tour of Mull Rally for 40 years, has published on its website a series of questions and answers underlying its decision not to run the 2010 Tour and to consider its future involvement.
The Club posted the news of the availability of this information as a comment on our original story that Mull had lost the rally. Its comment was timed at 7.43pm this evening (9th March). If you click on this story you will find it at this point in the date and time sequence of comments. Or go direct to this link to the relevant page of the 2300 Club website.
We recommend everyone interested in and concerned about the situation to read this material for themselves.
One particular question and answer it provides – the last one – relates to For Argyll. The Club has evidently – as with Mr Cowan on Mull – been equally wrongly accused of ‘writing’ or ‘contributing to’ For Argyll’s original story on the news that Mull had lost the 2010 Rally.
The 2300 Club rightly refutes these accusations absolutely – as do we. No one writes our copy. As anyone familiar with our website knows well, we are resolutely independent. We make our own bullets and we fire them ourselves. Similarly we compose our own bouquets and we deliver those.
We would not claim always to be right but we have to call it as we honestly see it from the evidence – and we do, without fear or favour.
Council Leader offers to act as faciitator
It is worth noting the concern felt at the highest levels at Argyll and Bute Council over the loss of the event.
Councillor Leader, Dick Walsh, a skilful and experienced negotiator, has told us that he will be more than happy to facilitate any round table discussion between all concerned.
He has a problem in making the date of the public meeting already arranged by Mull Councillor Mary Jean Devon for the community itself to discuss the matter.
As we have already reported, this meeting will be at 7.30pm in Craignure Village Hall on Monday 15th March.
Dick Walsh has said he will gladly convene a further meeting if this is helpful and has said: ‘I will do whatever is needed to assist or secure a positive outcome’.
